The Travel Writer is me (Danica-Lea Larcombe). I started travelling properly from the age of 10. I was in a marching team and we had to travel all around the north island of New Zealand to attend competitions, which often involved staying overnight in the local teams’ homes. This was called being billeted out. I did this for four years, then at the age of about 23 I made my first trip overseas to Australia, backpacking for two months. A few years later I went to Vanuatu, and well, I never stopped after that.
You could say I was a gypsy or even a fairy, fluttering around to visit new destinations and looking for some adventure.
I first started writing a travel journal on a trip to Singapore and Thailand in 1999, and found I really enjoyed it.
